Introduction to La Liga

One of the most famous sports leagues in the world is La Liga, the best professional football league in Spain, also known as Laliga Ea Sports. Since its establishment in 1929, it has increased in a global competition, which claims famous teams, violent rivals and some of the biggest football players in history.

The league, which has 20 top teams, is played through the August to the May season. There are 38 round-Robin matches where each club competes. La Leiga, now officially known as Laliga EA Sports, is the leading professional football league in Spain.

Founded: It was founded in 1929 by Royal Spanish Football Federation.
There were ten teams in the first season, and Barcelona was named the first master.

Point System

In each La Liga match:

Win → 3 points
Draw → 1 point
Loss → 0 points

At the end of the season (after all 38 matches per team), the total points determine the league standings.

If two or more teams have the same number of points, the tiebreakers are applied in this order:
1. Head-to-head points between the tied teams.
2. Head-to-head goal difference.
3. Overall goal difference.
4. Goals scored in all matches.

Relegation & Promotion

Relegation:
- The bottom three teams in La Liga (positions 18, 19, and 20) are relegated to Segunda División (second tier) at the end of the season.
Promotion:
- They are replaced by the top three teams from Segunda División:
  1. 1st place in Segunda → automatic promotion.
  2. 2nd place in Segunda → automatic promotion.
  3. 3rd promotion spot decided via playoffs between the teams finishing 3rd to 6th in Segunda.
